Bishops Wood Nature Reserve & Centre

Bishop's Wood Countryside
Centre, Caswell Bay Road, Caswell, Swansea, SA3 3DS

Beaches, Parks, Gardens & Nature Reserves

The Bishops Wood Local Nature
Reserve, located above Caswell Bay, aims to conserve wildlife
diversity and provide access and information to visitors and
schools. It is a classic example a limestone woodland, relatively
rare in Britain. Part of the wood is classified as an ancient
woodland, which has been wooded since at least the 17th century as
indicated in the 1673 survey of Bishopston Manor. At the top of the
reserve is the Countryside Centre, a new timber framed roundhouse,
which acts as a shelter within the woods and centre of activities
and events year-round. Guided tours can be arranged by appointment.
The Reserve has recently been designated a Site of Special
Scientific Interest (SSSI) and candidate Special Area of
Conservation (cSAC). It is also one of only two Nature Reserves in
Wales to be awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for 2005!
